The puppet of the character Desdemona, from Othello, that I created in performance. It is the last scene where her husband is about to suffocate her and she realises she is in mortal danger. Photograph by Maura Kahindra.

Puppets can do things that humans cant so I decided to show her delicate nature through elongating her arms and legs as well as giving her an impossibly tiny waist. The version I designed was intended for a 1930's version of Othello set in America.

The strawberry embroidered handkerchief is an important plot device in Othello and so I thought it was important to include it. I overlocked the edges to create the illusion of tiny lace.
